Christchurch has been decimated by large earthquakes in recent years. Most of the downtown area is fenced off. The buildings left in ruin.
Businesses have moved into storage containers and have created a container mall/city near the old square and cathedral.
Rather than spending too much time in Christchurch, we visited Pat & Alistair Campbell in Lincoln.
They took us all around the village. We saw Lincoln University where Doug's dad worked (in Burns Hall...no relation). We even stopped by Doug's old house.
